Senior Level Microsoft SQL Database Administrator

Position Summary:
The Senior Level Microsoft SQL Database Administrator is a member of the System Operations team and is responsible for the design, development, and deployment of Microsoft SQL -based solutions and technologies as well as providing operational support of existing systems and tools.

Responsibilities:
• Includes, but not limited to, planning, systems analysis, systems design/development/deployment, automation, scripting, and documentation.
• Identifying, triaging, troubleshooting, and resolving problems with SQL services in Dev, QA and Production environments.
• General operational and maintenance activities as required to ensure highly available, reliable, and well performing systems.
• Analyzing existing systems and processes to recommend changes/improvements to them to maximize capabilities.
• Meeting assigned project deadlines and work schedules. Timely and accurate completion of special projects and assignments.
• Effective use of time and equipment to accomplish assigned projects.
• Understanding, supporting, enforcing and complying with company policies, procedures and standards of business ethics and conduct.
• Effective and consistent cooperation and communication with Team Leadership and key company personnel.
• Working with and supporting other internal teams including Network Operations, DevOps, and Software Engineering.
• Performing duties in a professional, polite, considerate and courteous manner.
• Participation in on-call rotation; typically less than one week per month.
• May be called on for emergencies 24/7 hours, 365 days a year.
• After hours scheduled maintenance windows.

Required Skills and Competences:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Information Systems or related field.
• Extended experience with Microsoft SQL database engine-relevant technologies or in a similar role.
• Experience with various enterprise-level operations software packages, such as ticketing, monitoring, logging, and graphing systems.
• Deep knowledge on Microsoft operating systems, including usage in a GUI-less server capacity.
• Strong knowledge on SQL High Availability options , including AlwaysOn, Database mirroring and Log shipping.
• Experience with SQL engine troubleshooting, ability to utilize SQL Server Profiler.
• Scripting experience (Powershell, Transact-SQL).
• Ability to design and implement various SQL service security
• Strong organizational skills, including effective use of time and equipment to accomplish assigned projects and managing multiple concurrent tasks.
• Strong written and verbal communications skills, with ability to interrelate and communicate with people within the workplace.
• Strong problem solving abilities, with keen attention to detail.
• Ability to work outside of comfort zone and research and resolve issue which have not been seen before or are outside of existing knowledge.
• Able to read and understand technical manuals and procedural documentation.
• Ability to conduct research into issues as required.
• Self-motivated and directed, with the ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
• Knowledge of revision control systems such as SVN and Git.
• On-call troubleshooting for SQL Server service outages.
• Strong knowledge of general networking concepts.
• Ability to handle project management duties of small projects.

Additional Desirable Skills and Competences:
• Experience with Analysis Services, Integration Services, or Reporting Services
• Familiarity with Agile philosophy/methodology and associated tools
