Analyst in Sustainability and Impact in Business Development

Job Description

The Sustainability and Impact (S&II) department is responsible for integrating ESG (environmental, social, and corporate governance) as a holistic factor in the investment process in order to make better-informed investment decisions. This is being done by building ESG data & tools into portfolio managers’ investment process & portfolio construction, running a centre of excellence with expertise knowledge as well as further developing processes for cost-efficient development, implementation, and delivery of ESG integration & active ownership. The S&II department is well integrated into Wealth Management and works closest day-to-day with portfolio managers within Investments & Solutions and other parts of the organisation. 

In the first instance, we are looking for candidates to perform Voting on investments (stocks) in the portfolios on behalf of the portfolio managers, as well as to analyse and execute “screening” of stocks and sectors (screening is a process to ensure that certain portfolios do not invest in unwanted areas of the market, for example, sectors such as Tobacco, Gambling or others, depending on specific portfolio guidelines).

Today, we are a small globally operating team of 8 people, based in Copenhagen and Stockholm.  We are now hiring the first 2 team members in Vilnius, for S&II, Governance & Processes, to participate in developing and implementing value-added active ownership processes. The team of 2 analysts will on a day-to-day basis work closely with senior team members in Copenhagen, as well as staff in the other offices. Travel to Copenhagen will be required (during the first month, we expect you to spend app. 3-4 days per week in Copenhagen, and thereafter 2-3 days per month).

A typical day:

As these specific roles are new, the typical day has not already defined. Therefore, we expect the new team members to be comfortable with a certain level of uncertainty, and to contribute with independent initiative and creativity.

The voting activity is characterized by being a seasonal activity, where the period from February to June is particularly active. Therefore, the typical will vary depending on the period. As an illustration, from February to June, a typical day could look like this:

  • (70-90%) Execute voting activity (keep portfolio managers and other stakeholders informed about upcoming issues, distribute company meeting agendas to portfolio managers, receive and distribute research, receive and review voting decisions, implement voting on voting platform, monitor deadlines, interact with portfolio managers and others for resolving issues, document and control).
  • (10-30%) Analysis and reporting of voting, screening, and ad-hoc tasks and analysis

The rest of the year, there is significant less voting activity, which enables more focus on learning, development and analysis:

  • (20%) Dialogue with service providers and other departments to analyze improvement opportunities and update process descriptions accordingly.
  • (20%) Analysis of voting activity, and development of relevant proxy voting reports
  • (20%) Prepare infrastructure, documentation and material for the next voting season
  • (10%) Research and Analysis on corporate governance and voting and trends within proxy voting and related areas
  • (10%) Participate in process development across S&II
  • (10%) Analyze and report on general developments
  • (10%) Ad-hoc tasks and analysis, including execution of voting activity

Requirements

  • Financial and/or Investment background (preferably 2-3 years)
  • A relevant higher education (Finance, Economics)
  • Quantitative/statistical skills. Advanced user of Excel
  • Structured and organized, with an eye for detail
  • Strong personal impact with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong English skills (both written and oral)
  • Strong independent drive to achieve success in your work
  • Experience with customer dialogue and reporting and advantage
  • Interest or background from financial analysis or audit would be an advantage
