Job Description

Within IT Services we engage with many departments within the organisation, this includes Service Desk (Internal and External) Development teams, Project Management Teams, External Suppliers etc. IT Services core responsibility is to support in delivery of in house developed and hosted technical solutions, ensuring system security, availability and performance covering relevant business hours.

To provide application support, resolve incidents, manage application problem resolution, suggest functional improvements to development and advise on application usage and selection:

  • Support in delivery of in house developed and hosted technical solutions, ensuring system security, availability and performance;
  • Work with the Development Team on major issues, problem resolution and improvements;
  • Work with a small team of highly skilled individuals and provide technical input into key business decisions;
  • Maintain and develop the knowledge base;
  • Provide 3rd line support and assistance to On-call Service Desk on a rota basis;
  • Liaison with other functional/departmental managers so as to understand all necessary aspects of their requirements from the architecture to ensure these are taken into consideration;
  • Pro-active identification and support in the resolution of problems related to applications.

Requirements

  • Ability to analyse incidents to identify appropriate workarounds
  • Excellent problem solving skills to identify root cause and permanent resolution.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels including senior management, via a variety of mechanisms, to external third party suppliers, partners and customers.
  • Passion for keeping up-to-date with emerging concepts and technologies that may be of future use and benefit to the organisation
  • Excellent documentation skills
  • Methodical, thorough and diligent, strong organisational and time management skills
  • Minimum of 2 years experience within a service level driven environment
  • Experience of supporting data slice/dice/analytical applications.
  • Experience of sql, database design and query construction
  • Experience of Scripting – VBS, Powershell, experience of supporting .NET (C# or C++), COM+ applications, experience of developing and supporting Access and VBA applications would be consider as an advantage
  • A working knowledge of a broad range of infrastructure architecture technologies and principles. for example LAN, WAN, SAN storage , server design and implementation, capacity planning, disaster recovery and data centres
  • Experience of using analysis tools such as filemon, perfmon
  • Ability and experience to translate extremely complex technology solutions to the business or customers
