Job Description

We are looking for an experienced and caring Engineering Manager to lead our Preorder Shipping team within the Purchase domain. Shipping is a business-critical pillar of the Vinted marketplace. Our team's mission is to make shipping options, rates, and pickup options incredibly seamless and reliable for millions of members across Europe during their preorder journey.

The Preorder Shipping team owns the core tech from the moment a seller uploads an item and selects a package size, to when a buyer chooses their preferred pickup point on a map at checkout. We are currently undergoing an exciting architectural evolution-migrating our core domain logic away from our legacy monolith into a modernized, service-oriented architecture (via our svc-shipping-estimation service) and deepening our integrations with the Vinted Go (VGo) logistics platform via API decoupling.

As the Engineering Manager, you will lead a cross-functional, highly collaborative team of Backend, Frontend (iOS, Android, Web), QA engineers and SDET. Total 10-12 direct reports. Working in a mature EPDA (Engineering, Product, Design, Analytics) setup alongside a Product Manager, Product Designer, and Decision Scientist, you will shape how millions of people experience shipping on Vinted.

  • Own Team Delivery: Be accountable for the delivery cycle time, sprint planning, and execution of preorder shipping features.
  • Empower the EPDA Sync: Partner closely with your Product Manager, Product Designer, and Decision Scientist to translate product vision and A/B test objectives (aligned with our Experimentation Manifesto) into clear, incremental technical deliverables.
  • Bridge to VGo: Manage the tight technical touchpoints, API contracts, and integration roadmaps with the Vinted Go platform team (carrier/rates configurations, Rate Recommender integrations).
  • Drive Service Decoupling: Drive the extraction of shipping-related capabilities (such as shipping address and phone) from our legacy monolith into our new domain service (svc-shipping-estimation).
  • Maintain Technical Excellence: Foster adherence to Vinted’s core engineering principles, ensuring that systems are scalable, performant, and monitored through robust SLIs/SLOs.
  • Manage Tech Debt: Strategically balance short-term product delivery speed with long-term code health, keeping technical debt visible and prioritized in the team’s backlog.
  • Incident Ownership: Ensure high availability of our critical checkout flows. Lead incident management within your scope, coordinating responses, writing post-mortems in VITA, and preventing future regressions.
  • Modern Quality Assurance: Foster a strong "shift-left" testing culture within the team. Empower your engineers to build systems that are "testable by design" and ensure we maintain a robust, layered test automation suite.
  • Nurture Growth: Provide dedicated mentorship, coaching, and sponsorship to engineers across different disciplines, helping them set SMART goals and advance their careers under the Vinted Career Level Framework (CLF).
  • Hiring & Staffing: Proactively identify staffing needs and drive the recruitment of new talent, maintaining Vinted's standards for hiring SLAs.
  • Foster Psychological Safety: Create an inclusive, diverse, and authentic team culture where feedback is shared openly, failures are treated as learning opportunities, and team health is actively monitored (via Peakon and DevEx).

Requirements

  • Experienced Engineering Leader: You have a proven track record of managing and scaling high-performing large software engineering teams in agile, fast-paced environments.
  • Leading Complex Initiatives: You have experience successfully driving complex, multi-quarter, or cross-functional technical initiatives from conception to delivery. You excel at navigating technical interdependencies, aligning multiple stakeholder teams, and managing risks and trade-offs.
  • Technical Foundation: You have a solid engineering background (we primarily use Ruby on Rails in the team, alongside Go in the wider domain). You are comfortable sparring with senior engineers on Domain-Driven Design (DDD), REST/gRPC API structures, and microservices extraction.
  • A Caring People-First Approach: You believe that a manager’s job is to enable others. You are passionate about people development, active listening, and conducting impactful 1:1s (PGIC framework).
  • Collaborative & Communicative: You are highly skilled at explaining complex technical limitations and trade-offs to non-engineering stakeholders and aligning with external dependency teams.
  • Pragmatic Problem Solver: You prioritize long-term organizational goals over team preferences and make risk-calculated judgments based on data.
