Job Description

As a Technical Expert, your responsibilities will include:

• Consultancy and advice to end users of the software products and infrastructure services that the team provides, including advise and
  

recommend
technical solutions, the best combination of products from the team's portfolio to meet particular requirements, cost, delivery and schedule
implications of
selected technical solutions, etc.

• 2.5 and 3 Line Support for the software products and infrastructure services, including:
  

1. technical backup and training to members of the shift based teams;
2. working with members of London and New York teams and with upstream vendors to resolve issues and prevent re-occurrence;
3. identifying deficiencies in process or product that need to be remediated and providing a plan for that remediation;
4. identifying training deficiencies and designing and delivering targeted training activities to resolve the deficiencies;
5. participation in Major Incident calls, and in after-event analysis to prevent re-occurrence - with identification, tracking and successful of
associated
remediation actions;

• Acting as a Subject Matter Expert for one or more of the key technologies, in conjunction and co-operation with a peer in London and/or
  

New York,
with accountabilities in:
1. setting the technology roadmap, including lifecycling of current product, evaluation of alternative or complementary products;
2. understanding and advising on the costs of a product, including licensing and support contracts;
3. identifying and delivering cost saving or cost avoidance opportunities on the key technology;
4. giving direction to Engineering teams on build and functional requirements.
You will be working the standard hours Monday to Friday, although occasionally there might be a need to work some weekends for major
project
deliveries, and to work some day or night shifts to provide cover for absence, illness or other problem in the shift based teams

Requirements

We expect you possess:

• Experience and extensive knowledge of at least one the following: Unix, JEE, HTTP Servers, Java Servlet Engines, Java Caching;
  
• The knowledge and aptitude to be or become a subject matter expert on one or more of the core technology offerings the team owns:
  

Oracle
Weblogic, Oracle Coherence, Red Hat JBoss EAP, Apache Tomcat, Apache httpd

• At least theoretical knowledge in each of these key infrastructure areas would be an advantage as it would be of assistance in designing,
  

approving, improving applications that use them with the key middleware technology products: Active Directory and LDAP authentication
services, Client
certificates and Single Sign On technologies, Web performance monitoring, Shell scripting skills, Internet facing technologies;

• Proven experience of working in project delivery environment;
  
• Knowledge of software maintenance;
  
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  
• Excellent English skills.
