Job Description

It will be down to you to deliver the best possible design, configuration and optimisation of our access network so that we can achieve the best network performance and coverage KPIs in the UK market. Your focus will be on delivering 2G, 3G and 4G radio design within a regional team. That’s going to involve getting to grips with any existing radio performance issues in terms of network KPIs and customer complaints or site design weaknesses and coming up with solutions that will ensure we always meet our performance targets.

We’ll need you to implement physical and software changes as well as carrying out visual inspections on site and undertaking technical reviews with both internal stakeholders and external partners. It’s a very analytical role – you can expect to analyse our data, radio KPIs, and existing hardware and antenna configurations before coming up with proposals to drive improvements. Do well here, and not only will you be helping to make sure we achieve high levels of customer satisfaction, you’ll also be giving our marketing teams clear differentiators that will help to set Vodafone apart.

Requirements

About you With a degree or equivalent in an engineering or science subject, you’ll be experienced in radio design and coverage planning based on desktop analysis and on-site technical visits. A proven track record in making physical implementation changes on a network is a must. We’ll want to see an excellent knowledge of 2G and 3G network architecture – 4G would be an advantage – and you’ll have proven skills in network optimisation techniques and processes. You should also be experienced in using network statistics and traces to analyse and improve network performance. Because you’ll be making physical changes on the network your technical experience is vital, but we’ll also need to see strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to communicate complex technical information in a non-technical way. A strategic thinker, you’ll be comfortable with delivering against challenging targets and deadlines – we’re looking for someone who’s responsive but who also understands the boundaries. Although not essential, we’d love to see experience of managing projects, suppliers and products, creating business cases and using automatic radio network optimisation tools. If you can also bring skills in process definition and improvement, so much the better.
