R&D Scientist – Nanoflow UHPLC column development

Job Description

  • Conduct R&D activities with an emphasis on the testing and evaluation of integrated systems including nanoflow UHPLC, mass spectrometry, and “smart” chromatography consumables
  • Regularly communicate and interact with a multi-disciplinary, international team of R&D scientist and engineers with roles in chromatography, mass spectrometry and HPLC instrumentation
  • Develop reliable, economical, and reproducible methods for assembly and testing of chromatography consumables
  • Coordinate activities between Operations, Column Engineering and R&D to ensure alignment of procedures and product transfers and to create manufacturing friendly processes
  • Write SOPs and work instructions according to ISO 9001 requirements
  • Make recommendations to design scientist and engineers to optimize testing processes to ensure the manufacturing of quality products
  • Perform analytical analysis to support development efforts
  • Interpret results of laboratory activities to laboratory personnel and management
  • Troubleshoot production issues, act as the “last resort” for manufacturing team

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in chemistry, analytical chemistry, chemical engineering, related field focusing on liquid chromatography separations and mass spectrometry, and 1-2+ years of related experience OR Master degree with 0-1 years+ of experience
  • Strong knowledge of principles, concepts, practices and standards in analytical chemistry and separation science
  • Experience in developing and evaluating nanoflow UHPLC columns by LC-MS for the analysis of small molecules and/or biomolecules
  • Experience with UHPLC and mass spectrometry instrumentation
  • Familiarity with mechanical and electrical systems and their integration with UHPLC and MS instrumentation is preferred
  • Ability to design, plan and execute experiments to evaluate the performance of chromatography consumables
  • The ability to design and execute experimental set-ups and assemble prototypes for testing
  • Implement knowledge gained from R&D experiments into SOPs and work instructions for the evaluation of chromatography products in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of interaction of multiple products and fundamental understanding of how customers use these products is desired
  • Fluent English
