Job Description

As Senior Backend Engineer, you will be responsible for building automation tools that make regulatory compliance, operational resilience, and reporting more seamless, secure, and reliable.

We are launching a brand-new Automation Team within the Vinted Pay domain. This team will be structurally different from other product teams at Vinted because it operates in a non-PDA setup (No Product Manager, Product Designer, or Decision Scientist by design). We believe that automation is a deeply technical and operational challenge that should be spearheaded directly by engineering.

You'd join a cross-functional team consisting of a Engineering Manager, QA Engineer, and a strong group of Backend Engineers. The team is backend-heavy, which reflects the complexity and criticality of the domain. You’ll help shape the team’s roadmap from the ground up by identifying opportunities for automation and determining the best ways to solve complex regulatory challenges.

Initially, your team will focus on automating mission-critical compliance and operational flows, including:

  • Financial Authority Reporting: Automating complex reporting pipelines for central banks and regulators
  • Compliance Operations (SARs & STARs): Automating Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) and Suspicious Transaction Activity Reports (STARs) in collaboration with our AML and Legal teams.
  • Incident Reporting & Monitoring: Seamlessly automating incident tracking, alerting, and SLA triggers within Vinted Pay.

In this position, you’ll

  • Apply Agile and Lean principles in your work. _We don't rigidly adhere to a single framework. We view Scrum, Kanban, and other methodologies as tools, selecting the most beneficial one for the team to achieve its goals_
  • Collaborate with other developers through GitHub pull requests and code reviews. _Our pull requests move fast: time to first review is up to 13 min, average pull request cycle time (from open to merge) is up to 2 hours_
  • Use AI tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code and other to improve your code
  • See your code to affect millions of users almost instantly. _Our main branch gets rolled out straight to production on each merge. We deploy many times per day_
  • Work with diverse tech stack, including: languages: Go, Ruby; cloud infrastructure: AWS; databases/storage: MySQL, Elasticsearch, Redis; workflow orchestration: Temporal; monitoring/observability: Prometheus, Grafana._We don't expect you to be familiar with all of them beforehand, but we expect you will be excited to learn them fast_
  • Write unit tests for all of the code you write and contribute to integration and e2e test writing and its usage
  • Take ownership of critical alerts and business metrics for your team to ensure our services achieve 99.99% availability
  • You will participate in on-call rotations to ensure our product performs well

About you

You're the kind of engineer people go to when things get tricky — not because you have all the answers, but because you help the team find them. You ship solid work, but what really matters at senior level is that you make the people around you better.

  • You take ownership of features and projects from start to finish, and you break problems down so others can tackle them too — not just you
  • You mentor, onboard, and share knowledge generously. You don't hoard context
  • Your code is clean, well-tested, and reviewed thoughtfully. You raise the bar without being a gatekeeper
  • You document what you build — proposals, RFCs, ADRs — so the next person doesn't have to reverse-engineer your thinking
  • You know at least one language deeply (concurrency, memory, the ecosystem around it) and you're comfortable with API design, caching, and system architecture
  • You care about observability and monitoring — if something breaks at 3am, your team shouldn't be flying blind
  • You connect the dots between technical work and business impact, and help your team see why it matters
  • You work well across domains — whether that's pairing with Design, Data, Legal, or InfoSec to get things unstuck
  • You stay calm and effective when things are ambiguous or on fire. You know when to push through and when to pull in help
  • You use AI tools effectively for debugging, code optimization, and complex tasks — and you help others get better at it too
  • You contribute to hiring — not just showing up for interviews, but giving feedback that actually helps us make good decisions

In short: you're someone the team can count on — to solve hard problems, yes, but more importantly, to help everyone around you do their best work.
