Job Description

Role Summary/Purpose
As Head of Software Engineering (m/f) you will be responsible to lead and develop the Engineering team with about 40 employees within our Ultrasound IT business, headquartered in Wessling/ Munich. Ultrasound IT is a global business segment and provides workstation software solutions including the market leading Viewpoint product line which works in close conjunction with Ultrasound scanners.

Essential Responsibilities
The challenge of this important key role is to be involved in strategic decisions within the growth development of the Ultrasound IT business which is on a strong growth and globalization path. The Head of Software Engineering (m/f) position leads and executes product programs with cross-functional team leaders and individuals in a multi-national environment to meet customer requirements, to ensure that new product development is done on-time, to right quality and cost. The Engineering team is responsible for development of the core platform and for medical application content, as well as testing and documentation. He/she will drive the product development strategy, plan and lead software development projects, and lead the internal and external development resources. Occasional travel requirement is about 20%. This position reports to the GM of the Ultasound IT business.

Essential Responsibilities:
-Leading the software engineering team, including development, recruitment, mentoring, resource planning and monitoring and skill set improvement
-Headcount and budget responsibility
-Setting the product strategy and direction of the business and driving continuous improvement of systems, products and processes -Leading the complete software product development cycle, from requirements planning, version planning and development to testing and quality assurance
-Resource assignment and prioritization including headcount and base cost budget
-Instilling a rigorous approach to target costing for new products and driving cost out of existing products
-Leading change through creative solutions to unstructured product and system design issues
-Optimizing team’s participation in all phases of product development
-Supporting existing products within Manufacturing, Sourcing, Service and Supplier Quality Engineering
-Ensure compliance with the GEHC Quality Manual, Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and applicable laws and regulations as they apply to this job type/position
-Identify continuous improvement activities by initiating the implementation of process and product quality improvement initiatives
-Travel requirement is about 20%.


Requirements

-Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, e. g. Software Engineering, Medical Informatics, Informatics or similar
-7+ years of experience in a medical software environment within software engineering
-Proven leadership responsibility, ideally in an international environment
-Proven mentoring and coaching abilities; demonstrated ability to motivate & inspire others
-Proven skills of programming languages, e.g. C++-Expertise in modern software development methods, e. g agile methods
-Proven ability to work cross-functionally-Excellent communication, influencing skills and ability to gain buy-in for initiatives
-Demonstrated ability to deliver results while working on multiple projects simultaneously, balancing resources, timing and quality of outcomes
-Excellent strategic and analytical skills
-Very strong communication and presentation skills
-Feels comfortable in a global environment with high complexity
-Fluency in English, German and other language skills will be a plus
