STUDENT SUPPORT ASSISTANT (PRE-K2 / PREK-5 CLASSES)

The job of the Student Support Assistant is established for the purpose(s) of working with individual and/or small groups of students(s) under the direction of a certificated Classroom Teacher and/or Student Support Teacher in the supervision and instruction of students with an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) or an Accommodations Awareness Plan (AAP).

RESPONSIBILITIES / TASKS

• Support student (s) movement and transitions throughout the school day.
• Help ensure students follow routines and school expectations.
• Supervise students during non-instructional periods.
• Provide general operational assistance to teachers and staff.
• Follow specific educational and/or behavioral plans, modeling appropriate behaviors and interactions with students and staff.
• Assist students by providing for any special health care needs, as determined on an individual basis.
• Perform related duties as required (assignments including classroom support, lunchroom, playgrounds Perform related work as required.
• Attend meetings and reviews.

• Bachelor’s degree or in the final year of completing the degree in psychology, special education or pedagogy.
• Fluent English (other language would be an advantage).
• Previous experience of working with students with special needs.
• The ability to work effectively with students, teachers, administrators, parents and community members.
