Job Description

System Engineer | Email TeamJoin Hostinger, and we’ll grow fast! ?We’re shaping the future of online success — powered by AI and driven by people. With 900+ talented professionals and over 4 million clients in 150 countries, we help creators and entrepreneurs bring their ideas to life faster and easier than ever before. Our mission: To provide tools that help individuals and small businesses succeed online faster and easier. Our culture: Guided by 10 company principlesOur formula for success: Customer obsession, innovative products, and talented teams.Your role at HostingerWe're looking for a System Engineer to help us build and run Hostinger's email platform — the infrastructure behind millions of mailboxes, and behind every message our clients send and receive. It's one of the few places left where a single team owns the whole stack end to end — compute, storage, networking, and the services running on top of it. Email is what makes that infrastructure hard: it's stateful, latency-sensitive, adversarial, and it never stops. You'll join at a point where large parts of the platform are being modernized, so there's genuine architectural work ahead — not just maintenance of someone else's decisions. This isn't a role where you follow playbooks — you'll write them.Curious to learn more? Connect with your team: Edgaras Lukoševičius, Engineering Manager, Email Hosting.Your day-to-day

  • Build and scale the infrastructure behind the service. Design and operate the systems that carry millions of messages a day — compute, networking, routing, and throughput — at a volume where a fraction of a percent is thousands of clients.
  • Run storage at scale. Petabytes of customer data across a distributed storage fleet: capacity planning, performance tuning, backups, and data integrity.
  • Automate everything you touch. Our infrastructure lives in code. If you did it manually twice, the third time should be a pull request.
  • Engineer how we ship. Build the testing and deployment pipeline that lets a platform this large change safely — infrastructure tests, preflight checks, progressive rollouts. Confident releases are an engineering achievement, not an accident.
  • Own monitoring and observability. Metrics, logs, SLOs, and alerting — build the systems that surface a problem while it's still small, so it's solved before anyone notices it.
  • Fight spam and abuse. Tune the filtering engines, rate limits, and authentication that stand between millions of mailboxes and everyone trying to get into them.
  • Solve problems at the root. When something surfaces, the interesting question isn't how to close the ticket — it's what change makes that entire class of problem stop happening.
  • Share what you learn. Review code, write the runbook, explain the failure mode. The team gets stronger, or it doesn't scale.

Requirements

  • Strong Linux experience (5+ years) — deep and hands-on, not just comfortable at a shell.
  • On-prem and cloud. We run most of our systems on our own hardware, with parts in the cloud (GCP, AWS, Cloudflare). We're looking for either a strong on-prem and virtualization background (Proxmox, KVM, bare metal) with cloud exposure, or a strong cloud background with real hands-on on-prem experience.
  • Infrastructure as Code — Ansible, Terraform, or equivalents. You trust automation, and know how to do it right.
  • Programming or scripting in Go or Python (bonus if both). Occasionally Lua or Rust show up too — we're happy to lean on AI for the long tail.
  • Production experience with databases, caches, and queues — MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis/Valkey, Memcached, or similar.
  • Containers and orchestration — you've experience running workloads on Kubernetes and Docker
  • Storage fundamentals — filesystems, distributed storage, replication (Ceph or similar) is a plus
  • Networking fundamentals — DNS, TCP/IP, TLS, HTTP, and routing.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on experience with an MTA at scale — Postfix, Exim, KumoMTA, GreenArrow, PowerMTA, ZoneMTA, or similar.
  • Experience running an IMAP/mail store — Dovecot, Cyrus, or equivalent.
  • Spam filtering and email security tooling — Rspamd, SpamAssassin, or similar.
  • Understanding of email authentication and deliverability — SPF, DKIM, DMARC, ARC, rDNS, blocklists, feedback loops.
  • Experience with IP reputation, warmup, or high-volume sending.
  • Familiarity with data pipeline and analytics tooling — ClickHouse, Kafka/Redpanda, Flink.
  • CI/CD beyond GitHub Actions, and open-source contributions.
  • Certifications like RHCSA or RHCE.

Company offers

  • We provide limitless learning opportunities: access to platforms like Reforge and Coach Hub, global conferences, physical and digital libraries, feedback culture, and mentoring through TesoXchange.

  • Enjoy flexibility in managing your schedule and bring your ideas to life in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Your health comes first with insurance from Day 1, gym memberships, recharge leave, Headspace subscriptions, and regular health checks.
  • Join our wellbeing-dedicated events, sports, arts, and hobby clubs, or simply enjoy the balance of a lifestyle that prioritizes wellness.
