Overall Job Purpose
To manage the delivery of Windows Server based projects, from Pre-Production to Production owned services on behalf of the client, UK Business &
Retail Banking, Barclaycard, Barclays Wealth and GCRB Technology
Responsible for managing all DE (distributed engineering) project deliverables (scoped at bid & estimation stage) under Windows Infrastructure for GRB
led Programmes/Projects using the group SDLC process
Implementation of Server Infrastructure 20%
Working with clients/designers to determine what hardware/OS platforms best meet their needs
Manage the New Business Team (internal) to ensure that the Purchasing of SW & HW is complete for the project.
Working with PM’s/Suppliers & technical resources to oversee the install of the infrastructure (servers) into the datacenter(s)
Manage component teams & supplier relationships to ensure all necessary supporting infrastructures is in place to implement & release new services –
this may include SAN & Cabling, or peripheral devices such as Fax Cards, DSL lines, additional LAN cards, LAN Cabling for DMZ configurations etc.
Ensure that all QA on installations is completed satisfactory, and evidence for audit; this include Operational Acceptance Checks, Post-Build Checks (from
the build teams)
Working with Designers 20%
Working with Infrastructure designers to QA their designs, ensuring they meet internal Windows agreed roadmaps, governance and specification, as well
as the clients non-functional requirements, such as SLA’s, Availability, Support Models et al
Advising designers on more suitable alternatives (if needs be) to implement target infrastructure to the benefit the client or Distributed Engineering strategy
– taking into consideration expected growth, target states & future migration paths; often these items can be overlooked – the TDE is responsible to
ensure these items are considered within the project delivery lifecycle.
Working with Project Managers 30%
Working with Lead PM’s within GISD to implement all facets of the project which impact the Windows environment. This includes:
Determine key projects RAIDS and review and contribute within formal critical outputs, such as Technical Vulnerability Assessments & Operational Risk
Assessments to ensure all DE component risks/vulnerabilities areas are captured where known.
Sign-off Bid (Stage 2 / 90%) confidence; costs agreed with New Business & Client via PM
Delivery Plan for the Windows deliverables – MSP based during Mobilisation, and ongoing phases
Managed RAIDs log for the Windows deliverables, to be shared with the PM on a weekly basis; to be incorporated into the master RAIDs log by the PM
Manage the active closure of all RAIDs, escalation to senior management where necessary
Liaison with Networks and Storage related issues where connected to Windows environment; manage alongside PM in case of esclations
Manage DE (Windows) Build & Test activity which includes key deliverables:
Production of critical Component (control) Documentation, Build Guide(s), Component Specification(s), Backup & Recovery Guide(s), Packaging QA
OAT Test Completion Reports – to ensure they are colleated and stored centrally, signed-off by DE Operations
Manage DE (Windows) Implementation activity
To draft a Windows Technical Implementation Plan (TIP), which can be incorporated into the wider Project TIP, which is written, owned and managed by
the PM or a delegated resource.
To raise all DE (Windows) related Planned Change Records, and attend CABs to ensure they are approved – to manage all task approvals inc. Note: TDE’s
do not raise Business Changes, which are the responsibility of the PM or Business area.
To ensure the Implementation timelines are kept to, and the implementation of any SW and HW is completed successfully, risks are managed and escalated
appropriately to the PM in a timely manner should they be observed during Implementation.
To manage all DE Windows Implementation resource throughout this key phase, reporting progress reporting to the PM on a regular and timely basis
To review, sign-off and manage the closure of Post-Build Check reports once the Implementation is completed
To review, sign-off and manage alongside the PM (dual accountability) the closure of Live Proving TCR’s from the Business where Live Proving is taking
place on DE Windows infrastructure.
Working with Component Teams 30%
Working with DE (Windows) component teams to implement all facets of the project(s) impacting their area. This includes, hardware, operating systems,
software, build packaging, build hardening, internal documentation sets – such as build guides, detailed designs (component level), component RAIDS,
Technical Implementation Plans etc.
Working with Windows component teams to ensure acceptance criteria is been met/and has been met throughout the project lifecycle.
Will need to be a driven person, self starter with a strong core experience in Windows Infrastructure technologies
- Will need to be a leader of people, has the ability to drive performance
- Will need to be customer focused, have excellent communications skills and will have the ability to interface & network with Senior Management
- Must have past experience of Technical Project Management, leading specialists of a variety of backgrounds and experience
- Must have excellent presentation skills, MI report authoring
- Must have a core understanding of planning, delegation and team building
- Must be possess degree education (2:1 minimum)
- Professional Qualifications:
- PRINCE 2 (preferred)
- MSCE (preferred)
- CCA (preferred)
- Has fluent English skills.
