Unix Administrators: Ref: 12/08/LUA (Northern Ireland)

Role
Allstate Northern Ireland currently employs over 1,500 employees in a range of software development roles across two sites in Northern Ireland. Our parent company is the Allstate Corporation, based in Chicago, USA is the largest publicly quoted personal lines insurer in the USA, with over US$30 billion in annual revenues. The Northern Irish operations are continuing to expand their IT services to Allstate and have Unix Administrator opportunities located at both the Belfast and Derry offices.
Allstate are committing to travelling to Lithuania to interview suitable candidates and will arrange relocation of successful candidates to our Belfast office in Northern Ireland. www.allstate.com/northernireland . All suitable candidates must have a very high level of English language skills (writing, Reading, Spoken) as all interviews and company communications will be conducted in English.

These opportunities are within the existing Infrastructure Services UNIX Security Services team providing access control and authorization across the UNIX enterprise in a large scale environment (2500+ hosts).

The successful applicants will:

  • Provide 3rd level support and troubleshooting for access control administration team.
  • Mentor and/or coach and provide on-the–job training for other team members in project technologies and/or processes to include the creation and improvement of training materials.
  • Create and improve technical processes within project under direction
  • Formulate project technical responses and strategies to meet business requirements
  • Provide expert technical input to project risk, dependency, and assumption, change control and query/issue resolution discussions
  • Perform or lead system investigations/tasks to resolve any project problems including escalated issues
  • Liaise with users to resolve technical issues
  • Lead the analysis and implementation of sub-projects within the team structure
  • Provide out-of-hours support for critical applications as and when required
  • Carry out any other duties that may reasonably be required from time to time


Requirements

Essential Criteria:

  • A Third level IT Degree
  • At least 2 years experience demonstrating in depth knowledge of the Solaris (9/10) operating system, experience troubleshooting performance issues within the Solaris 9/10 environments.
  • Understanding of Sun SPARC and x86 hardware offerings and Linux architecture
  • Able to recognize and troubleshoot problems with server hardware and applications software
  • Experience developing scripts, monitoring systems and applications, performance tuning as well as change control and testing experience
  • Must be either an EU citizen or possess a current UK Tier 1 visa which entitles the holder to take up full time employment.
  • Candidates should also be able to demonstrate excellent administration and organizational skills, display an initiative to work on their own and an aptitude to learn and develop new skills.
  • Can work independently or in a team environment
  • Must have very high level of English language skills to include reading , writing and spoken English. All interviews will be conducted in English. All applications to Allstate NI must be completed in English.


Desirable Criteria:
  • Cyber Ark and native Solaris RBAC
  • Sun / Solaris Certified
  • Directory experience using SIDM, SUN Directory server, and/or native LDAP for UNIX
  • ISC2 or other security certification
  • Experience of process improvements
  • Recognize automation opportunities to reduce the amount of “hands on” support
