Job Description
As a Windows Support Engineer you will work as a part of the team that is accountable for the overall Command and Control of all technology managed infrastructure and applications. The Windows Support Engineer is specifically accountable for a supporting Command and Control in delivering to its overall responsibility of being 'Guardians of service'. Please note that the team may need to work either 12 hours / 4 days a week or 8 hours / 5 days a week.
The daily responsibilities will include:
- Monitoring, operating and providing support for all the Bank's infrastructure and major applications running on various Windows Operating Systems
- Handling all alerts without assistance and undertaking initial incident classification and prioritisation
- Carrying out health checks and all other monitoring associated activities
- Ensure all Reported incidents/Problems/Change are closed within the SLA's
- Timely Escalations of required incidents to L2 support team and ensuring closure of L1 incidents within agreed SLA's
- Service Improvements - To suggest service improvements like scripting to automate manual tasks, proactive monitoring etc
- Supporting Windows Clusters, antivirus, backups, deployment tools and monitoring tools, capacity management
- Contributing to the Design, Development and Proof of Concept (POC) for changes to the existing Windows Server infrastructure & implementation of new Technologies
- Developing installation and integration guides to aid implementation of solutions
- Developing Post Implementation "Best Practice, Troubleshooting and Operational guides" to aid support of installed services
- Implementing of Business driven changes, Configuration of Group Policies
- Problem resolution including: problem management, root cause analysis and implementation of remedies
- Producing IT infrastructure activity plans and manages team/tasks to plan
Requirements
We expect you possess:
- In depth knowledge of Windows infrastructure (Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2003 / 2008 Server, Managing Active Directory DHCP/ DNS servers and activities, Domain controller)
- Effective verbal, written and presentational skills
- Understanding of Network Connectivity and protocols with respect to the WINDOWS platform (TCP/IP, WINS, FTP, Telnet, LAN/WAN, etc.)
- Good Knowledge of Backup toolset (TSM, Backup Exec, Arc serve, etc.)
- Knowledge on Windows Server Patching
- Good communication, Problem solving and interpersonal skills
- Can demonstrate logical problem solving techniques, backed by tenacity to resolve customer problems
- Fluent English (essential)
- Adaptable with the ability to learn the process quickly

- Virtualisation Technologies (VMWare ESX)
- Citrix/Xenapp
- MS Exchange 5.5/2000/2003/2007
- MS SQL Server 2000/2005
- SAN/NAS
- HP hardware (Blades/rack mounted servers, enclosures)
- Ideally MCSE or MCITP qualification
