As a Data Scientist at Vinted Go, you will join the Data team at the heart of building the in-house logistics carrier of Vinted. You’ll collaborate closely with a team of 20+ Data colleagues to develop and deploy machine learning, optimisation and simulation applications that directly power Vinted Go Carrier Product and Operations.
In this role you will work on a project basis across multiple Vinted Go Carrier product and operations teams - embedding with one or two teams at a time to deliver data science solutions, and rotating to new teams as projects conclude. Over time, you may support several teams in parallel, maintaining and extending the models you have helped put into production.
You will tackle a broad range of high-impact logistics and transportation data science problems, such as driver routing, warehouse simulations, network capacity, robotics optimisation, predictive maintenance, etc. A first set of data science models is already live across Vinted Go Carrier, and part of your work will be to maintain and improve them (there are some concrete ideas for where to take them next but also open to your perspective and where you will take it) alongside building new solutions from scratch. You will own well-defined problems end-to-end (from scoping through to implementation) with guidance from senior data scientists and tech leads on determining the right approach, while executing independently once the approach has been agreed.
We strongly believe that we are not in the business of building models for their own sake - we are in the business of moving millions of Vinted parcels reliably, efficiently, and at scale to help deliver our mission: to make second-hand the first choice. You will sit at the intersection of machine learning, engineering, product and operations, building solutions that show up in what drivers do each day, how warehouses plan their shifts, and how quickly Vinted members receive their orders.
At Vinted, we have three distinct roles within DSA. We believe each role can make a similar business impact in different ways, and therefore our salary ranges are the same for all three roles. To understand your role within DSA context better, here are brief descriptions of each role we have in the department:
Analytics Engineers are responsible for data curation – translating data needs from stakeholders into architecting, building and maintaining efficient & reliable data models and pipelines.
Decision Scientists are responsible for actionable insights, identifying and sizing opportunities, and automated tools that increase the quality of product and business decisions by applying statistical methods and data-driven decision-making.
Data Scientists are responsible for identifying algorithmic opportunities, ensuring those opportunities are addressed optimally, and designing, developing, and maintaining production-grade statistical and machine learning algorithms.
