Director of Engineering, Engineering Experience, Group Infrastructure

As Director of Engineering in the Engineering Experience domain, you will accelerate high-quality delivery in Vinted engineering teams.

The Engineering Experience domain provides tools, refines processes, and fosters our engineering community. This domain contains 5 teams currently - CI / CD, Developer Portal, Development Tooling, VITA (incident tooling), and Observability. You will lead a Staff Engineer and hire a Technical Program Manager to help you.

The Engineering Experience domain is part of Vinted Infrastructure. You will report to Titas Norkūnas and work in the Infrastructure Leadership Team, alongside the directors of Production Engineering, Data Infrastructure, and IT, as well as a Senior Staff Engineer and a Senior Program Manager.

In this position, you’ll

• Coach and grow the maturity of a management team: Lead and mentor a group of primarily junior Engineering Managers, helping them evolve from technical leads into high-performing organizational leaders.
• Hiring & team design: Take immediate ownership of the domain’s structure, with the specific goal of hiring and onboarding a Technical Program Manager within your first 90 days.
• Drive collaborative strategy: Define the roadmap for Vinted’s engineering tooling and processes. You won’t work in isolation; you will listen to the needs of the wider engineering organization to ensure your domain delivers high-impact solutions.
• Establish operational rigor: Solve the "measurement gap" by building reporting frameworks and engineering KPIs that clearly demonstrate the impact and health of our engineering functions.
• Bridge the gap with stakeholders: Act as the primary advocate for your domain, aligning team plans with Directors of Engineering and Staff Engineers across the company to ensure seamless adoption of new tools.
• Champion modern engineering: Accelerate the adoption of "Engineering Ways of Working" and AI-assisted development (e.g., AI code-writing models) across the entire company.
• Scale the Engineering Experience: Oversee the evolution of CI/CD, Observability, and Developer Portals, ensuring they scale effectively to support the daily work of 500+ Vinted engineers.
• Manage resources & vendors: Take responsibility for domain-wide headcount planning and the management of multi-million euro vendor budgets.

• You have a proven track record of scaling engineering organizations and maturing management teams, particularly by coaching and developing first-time managers
• You are an expert at stakeholder management, capable of aligning complex team roadmaps with broader organizational goals and communicating progress effectively to senior leadership
• You have a strong focus on operational excellence, with experience in defining engineering KPIs, building reporting frameworks, and using data to drive decision-making
• You are adept at navigating ambiguity and helping teams prioritize high-impact initiatives in areas like developer experience, AI adoption, and engineering tooling
• While a deep technical background is a plus, your primary strength is in organizational design and people leadership; you know how to empower technical experts to solve complex problems
• You are self-aware - able to reflect, seek feedback, and admit mistakes
