As an Engineering Manager for the KV Storage team, you will lead the people, processes, and operational excellence of an engineering team responsible for Vinted’s distributed key-value storage and caching systems, including Redis, Memcached, etcd, Cassandra, and our internal Distributed Locks service.
The KV Storage team is newly established from our existing Storage team and currently consists of 5 experienced engineers, with plans to grow further. You don’t need to be a deep technical specialist in storage systems—instead, your focus will be on people leadership, driving individual growth, establishing smooth engineering workflows, fostering a healthy team culture, and driving effective execution across our bare-metal and Kubernetes environments.
In this role, you will report to the Director of Engineering and form a strong leadership partnership with the team's Staff Engineer (who leads deep technical architecture and technology choices) and Technical Program Manager (TPM) (who drives cross-team delivery and roadmap alignment). Together, you will empower the team to deliver reliable, high-quality services to Vinted’s wider development organization.
- Lead and develop a team of 5+ infrastructure engineers, driving individual goal setting, regular feedback cycles, and quarterly performance reviews.
- Build up individual career development plans, mentoring engineers to achieve their potential and supporting team growth.
- Work with the Staff Engineer and TPM to turn technical strategy into well-structured roadmaps, clear team priorities, and predictable delivery.
- Create and refine efficient operational procedures, agile workflows, incident response routines, and on-call practices for the team.
- Oversee team execution, capacity planning, and hiring efforts as the new KV Storage team expands.
- Communicate with internal stakeholders and development teams across Vinted to ensure transparent service expectations, SLAs, and roadmap visibility.
- Participate in engineering management rituals, organizational planning, post-incident reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Keep track of team health, delivery velocity, and operational workload to prevent burnout and ensure a sustainable pace.
- Assist with unblocking engineers, resolving cross-team dependencies, and fostering strong collaboration with peer platform teams.
- Ensure the team delivers eventually consistent systems that keep data synchronized across cross-Atlantic markets without sacrificing performance.
- Help the team to solve hard distributed systems problems, including how to maintain platform integrity when facing network partitions and byzantine faults.
