Job Description

As our new Engineering Manager for Service Standards & Performance, you will be a key leader within our Service Ecosystem domain in Platform Unit. You will lead a team focused on providing tooling and standards for the ecosystem of backend service applications, specifically honing in on performance and service contracts tooling. Your main responsibility will be the health, morale, and efficiency of your team, ensuring they successfully establish backend best practices and "golden paths" for product developers. Working closely with your team, you will report to the Director of Engineering and collaborate with Staff Engineers to define and enforce standards for our service ecosystem.

In this position, you’ll

  • Be accountable for the results of the team (delivery management and quality of engineering), the processes and procedures in the team, and the people in the team.
  • Lead the delivery of crucial cross-domain platform initiatives, including multi-repo codebase maintenance, service contracts tooling (OpenAPI, gRPC codegen), and service quality scorecards.
  • Oversee the implementation of strict performance budgeting, performance analysis and profiling tools (for Ruby and Go), and resource (CPU & RAM) planning features like default profiles and autoscaling.
  • Ensure the team provides comprehensive development documentation, training, and AI development enablement (MCPs) targeting platform users.
  • Collaborate closely with Backend Staff Engineers and domain leadership to deliver on the Vinted backend strategy.
  • Focus on your team's and your own professional and personal growth, including conducting performance and compensation reviews.

Requirements

  • Proven experience leading technical teams and delivering results.
  • With previous backend engineering experience, we expect you to be technically proficient, enabling you to comfortably navigate complex service ecosystems and optimize performance topics.
  • Project management experience delivering on cross-department technical initiatives.
  • You know how to make teams effective, manage scopes, and manage deliverables.
  • Experience building teams, hiring new team members, and ensuring their ongoing professional development.
  • Solid proficiency in communicating with both technical and management levels.
  • Able to adapt to changing priorities and requirements; “embracing uncertainty” is a phrase that does not scare you.
  • Excellent at communicating in spoken and written English.
