Senior Backend Engineer, Purchase Domain, Pre-order Shipping Team

Vinted, UAB
4975 - 6725 €/m Gross
Occasional remote work possibility

Job Description

At Vinted, backend engineers are part of cross-functional product teams that include Mobile, Web, and Backend engineers, as well as a product manager, designer, and decision scientist. Backend engineers are responsible for implementing business logic, developing APIs for our mobile and web platforms, and scaling our backend systems to meet growing platform needs.

The Purchase domain guides members from the initial intent to buy to the successful purchase of the desired item. It is composed of several teams that work on delivering smooth checkout, payment, shipping, and messaging functionality to our users.

We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to strengthen the Pre-order Shipping team. The team is focused on ensuring a seamless, reliable shipping experience for Vinted users from the moment users start browsing items through to buyers completing their purchase.

Our team is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer who writes clean, elegant code and enjoys working on large-scale projects. Your main goal will be to help evolve our product to meet future challenges, while contributing to Vinted's mission of making second-hand the first choice, all with a strong focus on delivering an exceptional shipping experience.

  • Work on the extraction of existing functionality from the monolith into standalone services using Ruby.
  • Contribute to continuously tested and deployed applications by adding tests, implementing feature flags, and setting up A/B tests for new features.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support critical systems and maintain service reliability, focusing on root-cause analysis and post-mortems.
  • Monitor your deployed code through tools like Kibana, Grafana, and Datadog.
  • Apply Agile and Lean principles in your work, and collaborate with other developers through GitHub pull requests and code reviews.
  • See your code affect 85 million users almost instantly, as our master branch gets rolled out straight to production on each merge.
  • Own SLIs/SLOs in the product team to ensure quality and reliability.
  • Partner across teams to prioritize and align roadmaps to deliver results.
  • Drive complex initiatives end-to-end, proactively identifying architectural bottlenecks or process inefficiencies before they impact the business.
  • Mentor others by sharing your knowledge, providing guidance, and helping develop the skills of your peers.
  • Provide direct and impactful feedback in team functions, and seek feedback from team members to grow.

Requirements

  • You have solid backend engineering experience and a proven track record of owning complex projects end-to-end.
  • Experience with Ruby is preferred, but not strictly required — you're ready to pick it up and write clean, idiomatic code.
  • You are familiar with Software Engineering, Distributed Systems, Systems Architecture, and Service Oriented Architecture, and have a solid understanding of enterprise architecture patterns, (micro)services, and their trade-offs.
  • You are a proactive driver of change: when you spot a bottleneck or technical debt, you name it, champion a solution, and lead the effort to fix it.
  • You enjoy working collaboratively, giving and receiving feedback, and helping others grow.
  • You are a strong communicator in English who can talk clearly about complicated topics with both business people and engineers.
  • You are capable of working independently as well as in a team, taking the lead in addressing issues and driving improvements even without explicit direction.
  • You can engage in constructive, healthy conflict — expressing your views openly while maintaining respect and professionalism toward colleagues.
