Software Engineer (Linux, Connectivity & Secure Remote Updates).

Job Description

We are looking for a Software Engineer to own the infrastructure that connects, secures, and maintains Sentante systems in the field. You will build and manage the Linux-based server environment, design connectivity solutions between system components and remote sites, implement secure OTA update pipelines across deployed units, and ensure surgical data is received, stored, and transmitted securely.

This is a high-ownership role in a small, senior team. Your work will run in hospital environments where reliability and security are non-negotiable.

Key Responsibilities
Linux Server Management & Development

  • Set up, configure, and maintain Linux servers supporting remote surgical and data infrastructure
  • Develop server-side services and daemons for always-on surgical platform operation
  • Manage system monitoring, logging, alerting, and audit trails
  • Own security hardening, patching, and update management processes
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for software and firmware builds

Secure Remote Update Solutions

  • Design and implement update system for firmware and software across deployed hospital units
  • Implement secure boot and authenticated update chains as part of FDA cybersecurity compliance
  • Manage rollout strategies and versioning across multiple deployed systems simultaneously
  • Build remote diagnostics and fleet health monitoring capability

Secure Data Reception Solutions

  • Design and implement secure pipelines for receiving, storing, and transmitting procedural data from deployed systems
  • Ensure data integrity, encryption in transit and at rest, and access control across the data infrastructure
  • Support SBOM generation, vulnerability disclosure processes, and FDA cybersecurity documentation
  • Implement audit logging and traceability for all data flows in line with medical device regulatory requirements

Requirements

  • Linux server administration and development
  • Networked systems - TCP/IP, UDP, VPN
  • Secure software development practices
  • OTA update system design
  • Data security - encryption, access control, audit logging
  • CI/CD pipeline management
  • Shell scripting and system automation

Highly Desirable

  • FDA cybersecurity guidance (2023) or IEC 62443
  • IEC 62304 medical device software lifecycle
  • Embedded or IoT fleet management experience
  • Experience in medtech, robotics, or safety-critical systems
  • Secure boot and hardware root-of-trust concepts
  • Real-time or low-latency network optimisation
