Working on a ship makes it necessary for the artist to know the layout and various crew functions, this knowledge will be invaluable to both his/her concession and the Carnival image. The NuEmage artist must also be a competent business person, being able to engage the guest and know how to sell his/her service while evaluating which designs to push in a tactful, polite and personal manner. Other business functions will include: keeping financial records, progressively advertising his/her products, being able to close a deal or make a bargain on the spot and constantly searching for new ideas to introduce to his/her business for a wider range of service and greater earning potential.

The artist is required to always bear in mind and practice the various fundamental requirements of NuEmage which includes punctuality, a proper dress code, a positive attitude towards the guests and the business, and other perfecting details that were shared during their training period.

The medium used for the artist to work on is the guests. Special care must be exercised when working since the artist will be required to work close to sensitive areas. A proficient knowledge in the basics of art is also necessary to produce successful designs.

It is mandatory for all artists to conform to boat drill exercises and co-operate fully with the Safety Officer and also the Environmental Officer especially when disposing of unwanted paints or contaminated alcohol. A locker is provided for the artist so therefore no bulk of alcohol or paints should be stored in the cabins which may contribute to a fire.

Artists work under the Photo Department and report to the Photo manager so that any new development whether it is of a Carnival or Nu Emage nature can be forwarded to them. A good working relationship is important with the Photo Manager and their team especially since the Photo lab is where the artist will do most of their communicating with Nu Emage’s management.

If the artist’s hours of work conflicts with the Photo Manager meeting she should make arrangements to meet with the Hotel Director within 24 hours of the meeting since valuable information like destination changes and large groups for whom custom stencils may be made to increase revenue.
