Engineering Manager, Vinted Pay

Vinted, UAB
6658 - 9008 €/m Gross
Occasional remote work possibility

Job Description

We are launching a brand-new Automation Team within the Vinted Pay domain.

This team will be structurally different from other product teams at Vinted because it operates in a non-PDA setup(No Product Manager, Product Designer, or Decision Scientist by design). We believe that automation is a deeply technical and operational challenge that should be spearheaded directly by engineering.

As the Engineering Manager of the Automation Team, you will wear two hats: leading your team of Backend Engineers and acting as the Product Manager. You will own the entire lifecycle of the team’s deliverables — from early-stage product discovery and requirements gathering with key stakeholders to technical design, delivery, and scaling.

Initially, your team will focus on automating mission-critical compliance and operational flows, including:

  • Financial Authority Reporting: Automating complex reporting pipelines for central banks and regulators
  • Compliance Operations (SARs & STARs): Automating Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) and Suspicious Transaction Activity Reports (STARs) in collaboration with our AML and Legal teams.
  • Incident Reporting & Monitoring: Seamlessly automating incident tracking, alerting, and SLA triggers within Vinted Pay.

In this position, you’ll

  • Own Product Discovery: Partner closely with high-level stakeholders — including Compliance, AML Legal, Risk, Finance, and Customer Support — to understand regulatory, legal, and operational problems.
  • Write Product Requirements: Translate complex financial, compliance, and regulatory guidelines into clear, structured functional requirements, product briefs, and technical epics.
  • Set the Vision & Roadmap: Define your team’s long-term automation strategy, map out milestones, set Quarterly OKRs, and prioritize the backlog based on business impact and legal deadlines.
  • Manage Stakeholder Alignment: Act as the primary interface for Vinted Pay leadership on automation capabilities, communicating delivery status, technical trade-offs, and risk mitigations.
  • Nurture & Grow Engineers: Direct-line manage a team of Backend Engineers (IC2-IC4). Identify their development needs, set impact and growth goals, conduct impactful 1:1s, and run performance reviews through our People Growth & Impact Cycle (PGIC).
  • Foster psychological safety: Create a healthy, autonomous, and high-performing team environment that values curiosity, continuous learning, and co-creation.
  • Hiring & Capability Planning: Take ownership of recruiting and onboarding new engineering talent as the team expands to match Vinted Pay's growth.
  • Ensure Quality of Engineering: Oversee the delivery lifecycle. Ensure that the team writes highly performant, secure, and scalable automated systems (mostly in Go or Ruby) that adhere to our domain's architectural standards.
  • Manage Technical Debt: Proactively identify and manage technical debt, balancing pragmatic short-term deliveries with long-term architectural health.
  • Own Service Reliability & Incidents: Establish clear Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs) for your automation systems. Ensure robust monitoring and a structured process for incident management.

Requirements

  • You have previous experience as an Engineering Manager, Technical Program Manager, or a highly technical Product Manager.
  • You have a track record of successfully managing engineering delivery and people while writing requirements and driving product roadmaps.
  • You have spent time working in a FinTech, Payments, Banking, or highly regulated compliance/operations environment.
  • Experience dealing with AML, KYC, transaction monitoring, or regulatory reporting is a major plus.
  • You excel at breaking down highly complex regulatory, legal, and compliance concepts into clear, actionable technical requirements for developers, while confidently explaining technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
  • You believe in using "the right tool for the job."
  • You understand that "automate everything" is not always the answer, and you can make smart, data-driven trade-offs between speed, cost, and completeness.
  • Having a background in software engineering (ideally service-oriented architecture/microservices) would be a major plus.
  • You would be able to spar with senior backend engineers on system design, APIs, and databases.
  • You actively seek feedback, are adaptable to changing circumstances, and enjoy building systems from scratch in highly ambiguous problem spaces.
