Senior Backend Engineer

We are building a new digital bank from scratch and need our first Backend Engineer to help shape the services at its core.

You will design and build microservices that power the bank, integrate with vendor systems, and define the API contracts that hold everything together. You will work closely with architects and other engineers to make smart, long-term technical calls.

Responsibilities

• Shape the tech stack, current choices are a starting point, not a final call;
• Design and build microservices;
• Define and own API contracts;
• Integrate with vendor and third-party systems;
• Work with Kafka for event-driven communication between services;
• Run services on Kubernetes with Docker;
• Model and manage data in PostgreSQL;
• Collaborate with architects on service design and technical direction.

• 5+ years of backend experience with Java and Spring Boot;
• Strong experience designing and building microservices;
• Hands-on with REST and gRPC API design;
• Solid knowledge of Kafka or similar event streaming platforms;
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and PostgreSQL;
• Track record of integrating with external or vendor systems;
• Comfortable making technical decisions and shaping API contracts.

Nice to have

• Experience in fintech, banking, or another regulated industry;
• Background working in greenfield environments;
• Familiarity with DORA, PCI DSS, or NIS2.
