Job Description
Our team of engineers at Virtustream work to design, build and operate an infrastructure-as-a-service cloud for some of the biggest companies in the world. Our team is looking for individuals to help create the foundation for a distributed, API driven micro-service platform to automate our global IaaS and supporting services.
The Infrastructure team is focused on the lifecycle management of devices – deploy, update, maintain and securely retire. Our mission is to develop automation and monitoring to enable massive IaaS scaling for hardware devices while still actively managing and monitoring those devices. We manage compute servers, storage arrays, storage fabric and PDUs, relying on automation and orchestration tools to interact with vendor and open source APIs for those devices. We monitor the devices that we manage using both built-in notifications and open source tools. We also maintain and interact with multiple databases to discover and/or track configuration information.
Responsibilities include:
Develop abstractions and automation on top of traditional enterprise devices and vendor APIs
Develop API-driven micro-services that combine into a larger platform offering
Develop tools to monitor consumption and usage patterns to drive automated decisions
Participate in troubleshooting, capacity planning and analysis, performance analysis activities
Participation in an on-call rotation is required

Requirements
Required skills:
Minimum 5 years of DevOps, Operations Engineering or Site Reliability Engineering
Experience in large scale operations environments
5+ years of experience with Linux/Unix development or systems administration
Strong competency in production infrastructure platforms and IaaS
Solid ability to work in collaborative coding environments
Creativity, initiative and acute attention to detail
A thirst for innovation and solving problems at lightning speed
Passion for automating everything repetitive
Production experience using configuration management and orchestration tools
Obsession with software scalability and performance under high loads
A solid understanding of LAN and WAN topologies
Development experience, comfortable working in multiple languages at once
Preferred skills:
Experience with technologies and tools in heavy use in our team: python, Dell iDRAC, DellEMC VMAX & Unity, Cisco Network devices, Stackstorm, Ansible, Postgres, Jenkins/TeamCity, PXE, kickstart/AutoYaST, docker, kubernetes, prometheus
Familiarity with data centers, hardware and bare metal deployments
Experience working in distributed, remote teams across multiple time zones a plus
Familiarity working with containers and API driven services
Ability to identify tasks which require automation and implement required automation
Hands-on operational experience in a high-volume or critical production service environment - distributed systems, capacity planning, continuous deployment
BA/BS in Computer Science preferred, or equivalent experience (advanced degrees preferred)
